FARM FAMILY FIELD SCHOOL (3FS)

Farmer training programs have continuous changes in methods and approach from the beginning of farmer's education. Farmer Field School remains the last and final approach as more effective and sustainable with keeping the safe and sound socio-agro-economical aspects of the agriculture till 2007. This participatory multidimensional approach has different methods of educations as FFS, Women Open School (WOS) and Children Ecological Club (CEC) for male, female and children respectively. In these models the basic concept of training is participatory, Agro-Ecologically Discovery-based learning with almost same principles and objectives.

“Bashir A. Sabir, R. Y. Khan. Being an IPM facilitator I have faced many problems in running FFS especially of poor participation by male farmers in weekly training sessions. This disappointing participation of male farmers in FFS lead to an introduction of new group education named as Farm Family Field School (3FS). In this model male, female, younger and elders all sit together for training purpose weekly with more participation".

"In the beginning we opened eight 3FS facilitated by male and female farmer facilitators in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur with collaboration of Kissan Welfare Association respectively. Making the farmer expert at the different spot, is now gathered in a single unit to make a family expert instead of individual to insure the future farmer expert for prosperous community with sustainable agriculture in the country".

“National IPM Programme always tried to facilitate the farming community for their better livelihood. This model will be tested in different farming communities under IPM-FFS approach in future”. Jam M. Khalid, IPM Coordinator (Punjab), National IPM Programme, NARC, Pakistan.
